Reuzado one stop shop for depreciated IT
The circular economy requires more than just collection and recycling. Especially when it comes to IT hardware. After all, behind every laptop, monitor, server or smartphone is a combination of valuable raw materials, sensitive data and reuse potential.
Professional disposal of discarded IT equipment is therefore becoming increasingly important. Not only from a sustainability point of view, but also from the perspective of legislation and regulations, safety and demonstrable process control. Within the circular IT chain, Reuzado distinguishes itself with several specialised WEEELABEX reuse scopes. We explain what that means here.
More than just recycling
E-waste is often thought of as containers full of old devices that will eventually be recycled. But high-quality IT processing starts much earlier.
Indeed, the greatest sustainable gains arise when equipment is given a second life. Re-use, in other words. Equipment that can be used again after inspection, cleaning, repair and data removal.
This sounds simple, but in reality it requires strictly controlled processes. Because how can it be guaranteed that data is really securely removed and equipment remains technically reliable? And if a second life is not an option, that harmful substances are removed correctly and that downstream processing is also controlled? That equipment and materials are processed responsibly and do not disappear into uncontrollable waste streams on the other side of the world?
This is exactly why WEEELABEX exists.
What is WEEELABEX?
WEEELABEX stands for Waste Electric and Electronic Equipment Label of Excellence. It is a European certification standard for the treatment of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE). The standard sets strict requirements for data safety, environmental protection, high-quality recycling, controlled reuse and traceability of downstream treatment, among others.
WEEELABEX certification is not issued lightly. Processes are extensively checked and periodically audited. Therein lies the real value: not just recycling, but demonstrably safe depollution, high-quality preparation for reuse and the certainty that materials are processed responsibly.
The power of specialised reuse scopes
Reuzado is among a very limited group of Dutch WEEELABEX operators with several specialised reuse scopes. They are:
- SHA Type 1 re-use (Small Household Appliances: small appliance streams)
- FPD re-use (Flat Panel Display: including monitors, LCD and LED displays)
- LHA Type 1 re-use (Large Household Appliances: large appliance streams)
Especially the combination of different reuse streams and Type 1 treatment is exceptionally specialised in the Netherlands. Many parties have either general recycling certification or a more limited reuse scope. It is precisely the combination of several specialised scopes that makes Reuzado a true one-stop shop for organisations that want to have different device flows processed safely, sustainably and certified.
But what do those scopes actually mean? That is precisely where the distinguishing value lies.
“Type 1” within WEEELABEX means that equipment may be manually handled, dismantled and inspected, including depollution: the safe disposal of harmful components according to strict environmental standards.
“Re-use” is all about controlled preparation for a second life. Equipment is tested, cleaned, classified and, where necessary, repaired so that it can be safely and reliably used again as a complete product.
Why this is important for companies? The combination of these certifications means one thing above all: simplicity and security.
Where organisations often need multiple parties for different flows, Reuzado can act as a true one-stop shop.
Not only for laptops or mobile devices, but also for:
- monitors;
- displays;
- small and large equipment;
- IT assets;
- and complex return flows.
Everything can be processed within one controlled and certified process.
From data security to sustainability
This process is not just about recycling. On the contrary. Instead, the focus is on maximum value creation through life extension and safe data removal, reuse, raw material conservation, minimal environmental impact and high-quality recycling when reuse is no longer possible.
An approach that fits perfectly with modern ESG and CSRD objectives. Because the most sustainable raw material remains the one that does not need to be reclaimed.
Circularity requires trust
Circularity only works in the long run when processes are demonstrably safe, transparent and professionally designed. WEEELABEX certification offers that confidence. Not as a marketing term, but as a verified standard of practice.
For organisations, this means assurance that equipment does not simply “disappear”, but is actually processed according to strict standards - with a focus on reuse, safety, traceability and sustainability.
And that is exactly where Reuzado wants to make a difference: not just processing hardware, but actually giving IT equipment a responsible second life.
