Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is daily business at Reuzado ICT Services. Whether it’s about PSO or circularity, CSR is central. Since we have specialized for years in, among other things, the replacement, processing, and disposal of end-of-life hardware, we know this field better than anyone. End-of-life devices certainly don’t belong in regular business waste—think of data security and the environment. The grey (= non-certified) circuit is also not a good option for CSR-conscious companies. In this article, we explain why.
How can you be sure your hardware is processed responsibly?
WEEELABEX is the answer: Waste Electric and Electronic Equipment LABel of EXcellence. WEEELABEX, a European standard, sets the minimum quality level for collection, storage, transport, recycling, and reuse of e-waste. Independent auditors check WEEELABEX-certified companies monthly based on reports about processed volumes and achieved recycling results. Certified companies may only cooperate with partners who also work according to WEEELABEX. Only in this way can a certificate truly provide guarantees and keep the circle closed.
Mandatory
Since July 1, 2015, the WEEELABEX certificate has been mandatory in the Netherlands for companies that process e-waste. Responsible recycling is not an ‘option’ but the only way for a sustainable future of the planet. Especially in the current raw materials crisis, every reusable part belongs in the cycle. Processing devices without the WEEELABEX certificate is essentially an environmental offense.
Simply put, WEEELABEX ensures that accountability is provided for every gram of an old device throughout the entire processing chain, so that:
- Raw materials are reused as much and as well as possible
- Residual waste (i.e., not suitable for reuse) is processed correctly
- The right people work in the right places under the right working conditions (i.e., no minors in hazardous workplaces)
Administratively, the entire process is reported in such a way that everything is accurate at every stage. Monthly audits guarantee compliance. And because all involved parties carry this same certificate, you are assured that everything is done sustainably—another checkmark ✔️ for your CSR strategy!
