Data destruction for businesses: secure, certified and GDPR compliant

Decommissioned laptops, servers and hard drives often contain more business information than you might think: customer files, staff records, passwords, contracts. Reuzado ensures that this information never resurfaces. Our data destruction is organised in accordance with ISO 27001 and DIN 66399, is carried out by our own staff and is fully traceable from registration through to certification.

It doesn’t matter whether it’s a single hard drive or an entire data centre being decommissioned. Every data storage device is registered by its serial number, destroyed and recorded in a data destruction certificate, which you can present immediately in the event of an audit or a request from the Dutch Data Protection Authority.

Choose the method of data destruction that suits your organisation:

  • On site, using our mobile shredder and under your supervision
  • At Reuzado, in our secure processing area
  • Combined with the purchase or recycling of your end-of-life IT equipment

How does data destruction work?

Formatting or “deleting” a drive via the operating system only removes the reference to the data, not the data itself. A large proportion of it can be recovered within an hour using freely available recovery tools. You do not want to run that risk with equipment leaving the premises. That is why Reuzado works exclusively with two proven methods: physical data destruction in an industrial shredder or certified overwriting using Blancco software.

The GDPR also requires you to demonstrably delete any personal data you no longer need. By issuing a data destruction certificate for each data carrier, you can document exactly what was destroyed, when and how — and avoid data breaches, reporting obligations and fines.

1. Register your equipment

You can register your equipment using the form, by email or by telephone. We will go through the details with you to determine the quantity and type of data storage media involved, whether the hardware still has any residual value, and whether you would like the destruction to take place on-site or at our premises.

2. On-site destruction or collection

Our own drivers collect the equipment in locked roll-on containers, or we can bring the mobile shredder to you. From the moment of handover, the equipment is insured and the chain of custody remains unbroken.

3. Registration and processing

In the processing room, we scan every data storage device for its serial number and link it to your order. Hard drives, SSDs, tapes and mobile phones are kept separate from the rest of the hardware, so that nothing falls through the cracks.

4. Physical or software-based destruction

Data storage media that are no longer reused are shredded into fragments in accordance with DIN 66399. We erase recent equipment that is still fit for a second life using Blancco: each sector is overwritten and the erasure report is automatically recorded.

5. Certificate and report

Within a few days, you will receive the data destruction certificate, which will include all serial numbers, the method used and the date. You will also receive a breakdown of what has been reused and recycled, and how many kilograms of material have been recovered.

Our secure approach to data destruction

Two methods, one certainty: once the process is complete, the data is irretrievable and you’ll have the proof to prove it. Which method you choose depends on how sensitive the information is, whether the hardware still has any value, and how much control you want to retain yourself.

On-site destruction

For organisations in the healthcare sector, the financial sector, the public sector or the defence sector, equipment containing data is often not permitted to leave the premises. In such cases, we bring our mobile shredder to you. Our staff remove the data storage devices from the systems, scan them and shred them on the spot whilst you or your security officer looks on. We take the shredded remains away for certified recycling; the empty hardware can go straight into the procurement or recycling process.

Destruction at our secure facility

If you wish to hand the process over to us entirely, we will collect the equipment and process it in our secure processing area, which features access control and CCTV surveillance. There, data storage media are dismantled, registered and shredded in an industrial shredder. This is the most popular option for larger volumes, for example when moving premises, carrying out a hardware refresh or closing a branch.

Certified software-based data destruction

Laptops that are two or three years old are too valuable to be shredded. For such equipment, we use Blancco Certified Data Erasure: the entire drive is overwritten several times, the result is verified and recorded for each device in a data erasure report. The hardware can then be safely resold or reused — and we offset that residual value against the cost of your data destruction.

Sustainable processing of destroyed media and IT equipment

What comes out of the shredder is not waste but raw material. Aluminium, copper, printed circuit boards and precious metals are separated and returned to the supply chain. Reuzado is WEEELABEX-certified to the strictest European standard for the processing of e-waste. As a social enterprise based in Haarlem, we also do this with a team that includes people who face barriers to the labour market in permanent roles. This means your data destruction also brings social benefits.

Frequently asked questions about data destruction

What exactly is data destruction?

Data destruction means that the information on a data storage medium (hard disk, SSD, tape, USB stick, mobile phone) is permanently rendered unreadable. At Reuzado, this is achieved by physically shredding the storage device in accordance with DIN 66399 or by certified overwriting of the contents using Blancco. In both cases, you will receive a certificate for each serial number.

Certified and auditable data destruction

At Reuzado, data destruction is not a stand-alone service but part of a controlled process: from collection to recycling. Every step is set out in procedures that are subject to external audits, so that, in the event of an inspection, you will never have to explain what has happened to your data storage devices.

  • ISO 27001 - information security and secure data processing
