Phone recycling: the process

Mobile phones contain valuable materials and privacy-sensitive data. Just throwing them away is not only bad for the environment, it also carries risks. Think of data left behind in the device or batteries that should not be disposed of in normal waste.

1. Registration

Notify us by mail or phone that you want to have old phones collected or handed in.

2. Collection or delivery

We pick up the phones at your convenience. Of course, you can also deliver them yourself. For larger quantities, we use secure transport.

3. Registration and process

Upon arrival, we register the devices. Working appliances are prepared for reuse, defective phones are processed in an environmentally friendly way.

4. Erasing or destroying data

We securely delete all data: by software or by physical destruction. You receive a certificate of data destruction.

5. Reporting and proof

You get a summary of all returned phones and what happened to each one.

Data destruction in phone recycling

Old phones often hold more data than you think: contacts, photos, emails, chat history and documents. We make sure everything is irretrievably deleted - in a way that suits your needs and the sensitivity of the data.

You can choose from:

  • Software destruction
  • Physical destruction

Software destruction

Is the phone still in working condition? Then we can securely and permanently erase the data with certified software. For this, we use professional tools that permanently overwrite all data, making recovery impossible. This method is ideal if the phone is still reusable.

Wij maken gebruik van Blancco-software We use Blancco software - globally recognised in the field of data destruction. Blancco meets international standards and is recommended by NATO, TUV, ANSSI and the AIVD, among others. Afterwards, you receive a report with serial numbers and an official certificate as proof of data destruction.

Physical destruction

Is the phone damaged, no longer usable or does it contain highly sensitive information? Then we provide physical destruction of the internal storage. The chip is ground with an industrial shredder, destroying the data permanently and irretrievably.

We carry out this physical data destruction in our secure facility, but it can also be provided on site. Especially for organisations with high privacy requirements or compliance obligations, this is a reliable choice. Naturally, you will also receive a certificate of destruction as conclusive proof.

Why phones should be dismantled separately
gedemonteerd moeten worden

Every mobile phone contains parts that require special attention before we can recycle it in a safe and environmentally friendly way. One of the most important is the battery - often a lithium battery. According to WEEELABEX guidelines, these batteries must first be removed from the phone, as they can be a fire hazard. Especially if damaged or internally short-circuited, there is a risk of spontaneous ignition.

Removing the battery is not always easy, especially in devices such as iPhones where the component is firmly built in. With us, lithium batteries are therefore carefully removed from the devices and stored separately in a fireproof environment, in line with all safety regulations.

The phone's screen also requires special handling. Most screens contain mercury - a substance harmful to humans and the environment. Screens larger than 10 square centimetres must therefore first be removed from the device, according to regulations, before the recycling process is allowed to continue.

Only after battery and screen have been carefully removed can the remaining device be processed. In this way, we ensure that every part of the phone is disposed of properly - safely, responsibly and in accordance with the law.
