Why phones should be dismantled separately
gedemonteerd moeten worden
Every mobile phone contains parts that require special attention before we can recycle it in a safe and environmentally friendly way. One of the most important is the battery - often a lithium battery. According to WEEELABEX guidelines, these batteries must first be removed from the phone, as they can be a fire hazard. Especially if damaged or internally short-circuited, there is a risk of spontaneous ignition.
Removing the battery is not always easy, especially in devices such as iPhones where the component is firmly built in. With us, lithium batteries are therefore carefully removed from the devices and stored separately in a fireproof environment, in line with all safety regulations.
The phone's screen also requires special handling. Most screens contain mercury - a substance harmful to humans and the environment. Screens larger than 10 square centimetres must therefore first be removed from the device, according to regulations, before the recycling process is allowed to continue.
Only after battery and screen have been carefully removed can the remaining device be processed. In this way, we ensure that every part of the phone is disposed of properly - safely, responsibly and in accordance with the law.
